
Corona crisis had an immense impact on our REF tutoring project with Roma children; all project partners (Suto Orizari municipality and partner schools, Brakja Ramiz i Hamid and 26 Juli), including the 2 partnering NGOs Ambrela and SIEC did their best to tackle some of the issues and challenges presented by corona – despite the obstacles, these are the project achievements that we hope are a modest contribution and a lesson learnt for future tutoring projects:

• establishing tutorship lessons despite of a project delay
• initially selecting 235 children and involving 202 children in the tutorship process
• keeping regular contact with partners
• supporting the beneficiaries during the crisis in communicating to them the state measures and online learning system
• designing and implementing survey for parents to see what they think of the corona crisis and the conditions for online learning
• finding material support for 100 families
• organizing brief online tutoring for 7 families in June
• catering to the actual needs of partner schools during the corona crisis by supporting them in their expressed need for registration of 1st graders (added value whereby 102 families were informed and 50 children were registered into school with the assistance of our team)
• keeping project visibility / advocacy high on the agenda
• producing several recommendation papers for the needs of advocacy for handling post-effects of corona crisis
• involving other national NGOs to support the initiative
